Onboarding is the process of bringing a new hire up to productivity — covering paperwork, tooling, context, relationships and early goals. Weak onboarding is a leading cause of first-year attrition, which makes it a hiring cost even though it happens after the hire.
A well-structured first 30 days changes retention outcomes more than most interventions earlier in the funnel, and is considerably cheaper.
