Work sample test

A work sample test asks a candidate to perform a task closely resembling the actual job, usually observed or time-boxed. Work samples are among the strongest predictors of job performance in the selection research literature.

The predictive strength comes from measuring the thing itself rather than a proxy for it. The practical constraint is that designing a realistic, fairly evaluated sample takes real effort.

Pair samples with a structured rubric written before anyone sits the test.
