Take-home assessment
A take-home assessment is a work task a candidate completes in their own time. It can produce strong evidence of actual ability, but imposes unpaid work that disadvantages candidates with caring responsibilities or existing jobs.
The defensible version is short — two hours or less — clearly scoped, and evaluated against criteria set in advance. Multi-day assessments have a substantial dropout rate among exactly the candidates with the most options.
Paying for longer assessments is increasingly common and materially improves completion.
