Interview calibration
Calibration is the practice of aligning interviewers on what each rating on a scorecard actually means, usually by walking through example answers together before interviews begin. Without it, the same candidate answer receives different scores from different interviewers.
A calibration session typically takes 30 minutes: the panel reviews the competencies, discusses what a weak, adequate and strong answer would sound like for each, and agrees the standard. Doing this once per role removes most rating drift.
SHRM's structured interviewing guidance identifies consistency of application as the strongest predictor of whether scorecards actually improve hiring outcomes.
